Goals for Today - Make Some Cash and Finish a Website

Today I want to make at least $25 which isn't much really, however will keep the dollars ticking over.

I also need to finish a website I am putting together with the help of Greg. I will post a link when it is finished, however lets say its a niche little site that once up and running hopefully long term it will create passive income.

I am thinking maybe 10 hours all up to get the site going and it cost 11 dollars to get the domain name registered for 2 years. I will probably slip a couple of paid posts under this article, that will get me half way to the first goal.

As far as my keyword experiments are going for a limited time yesterday my celebrity site was on the front page of google for an article about celebrity feet. Then it appeared to drop off, and I am not sure where it is at the moment, hopefully it will resurface soon!

Update , before competing this article I whipped through a couple of posts, so already have created ten dollars of earnings for the day.

Make Money Fast with Persistence, Commitment and Goal Setting

In the last two weeks I have earned just over $300 online, in October 2006 just ten months ago it took me a whole month to earn $36.85. This means my earnings have increased almost 20 times in less than a year and looking back it is the following traits, more than any particular money making opportunity that have done it..

Persistence
I am a persistent person, stubborn even you could probably say. If I set my mind to something I just keep battering away until it happens. If you are lacking in persistence I would have to say that the chances of you making much money online are close to zero. You will of course be able to make a few dollars here and there but making more than pocket money will be difficult.

As other examples of persistence take a look at Mikes Money Making Mission, apart from a brief holiday he makes a post just about every single day and is now starting to make good money - recently he has struck gold with his celebrity insider blog which is getting thousands of hits. Also Kumiko at Cashquests.com, she now charges $50 US dollars for a review and has gone from strength to strength in the time I have been following her blog (from the beginning I think).

Commitment
Commitment and persistence are related but also different. For me commitment means making sure you allow yourself the resources to be persistant. This may be sacrificing time that you normally spend doing something else, perhaps even giving up on sleep! Its all about working through your priorities and ensuring that you allow yourself the best opportunities to achieve your tasks. We all struggle with commitment sometimes, however you need to make decisions about what you are going to commit yourself to and see it through.

Goal Setting
In the past I have been someone that has seldom set goals, however when I do set them you can be sure that I will do whatever I can to achieve them in the time frames that I specify. Its true that I don't always quite make it however I normally at least come close and if it takes a little longer than I first thought I will just keep going until its done.

As far as money making goals go, I have kept them small, incremental increases of 20 percent a month over a 30 month period. This month it looks like I will triple my target, however it gets increasingly hard as the 20 percent jumps mean a lot more in monetary terms as time goes on. If you set unrealistic targets its quite possible that you will not reach them, so it is best to make them reachable - however challenging at the same time.

A Simple Formula
There is nothing stopping you from doing the same, just keep on going - when you struggle to write look to others for inspiration or simply link to interesting articles. Have a break or go for a walk to think of ideas, by consistently creating unique content about your topic sooner or later things will start to happen. Is there a Blogger out there that has been writing consistently for 12 months that doesn't have traffic? I know there are lots of sites that wrote 10 articles and never did any more.

Its The "Bit Extra" That Counts A Lot

Have you ever been out for a meal and the staff at the restaurant did a bit more than what was necessary? What about walking into a shop and the shop assistant not only does their job but you leave feeling a little bit special because the service they gave you was exceptional and they expected nothing in return - well the same can be applied to a blog let me explain.

Link out to other sites expecting nothing back - there is nothing like the buzz of seeing another site point to yours and say "heres a great article, I enjoyed it why don't you check it out" , a site leaving a comment saying "I will link to you if you link to me" just doesn't quite leave the same warm glow inside does it?

Reply to and communicate with the visitors that are kind enough to comment on your site - I worked in retail for many years and the fact is that without customers you don't have a shop, or in this case a Blog. Imagine if you never had anyone visit your site - would you bother writing articles for it - probably not.

Visit the sites of the people that have taken the trouble to visit yours - most of your visitors probably have a site of their own, likely even related to your site. The least you can do is see who is taking the time to visit yours and return the favour.

Often there is only a tiny difference between a winner and a loser, however one goes on to be successful and the other has to live with being a runner up....

Are you a Tortoise or a Hare?

Since October 2006 when I started this blog I have consistently posted articles on it. At least 3 or 4 a week and have maintained this for 7 1/2 months. My traffic rise has been nowhere near as meteoric as some sites however it is the classic tale of the tortoise races the hare. I have seen a lot of sites come and go meanwhile I just keep pumping out the articles - trying new things and sharing them all with my readers. You may be interested to see what this consistency does for a blogs traffic so here's the graph since October 2006.

You will notice we are only 9 days into May yet already over half of Aprils traffic - so its going to be another good month. Looking at this graph and seeing the results over the previous months I can't really see it levelling out for a long time anyway because as you get more traffic more people link to you and there is more content for the search engines - plus you learn new and better techniques as time goes on.

The money gets better
Last month was the first month where the money earned was better than a bit of pocket money however I really had to work for it. If you missed it - April Summary of our Make Money Fast Million Dollar Experiment Down Under -266-00 US Dollars was created Online in April. This month it may be a struggle to beat that as I am again trying to get passive income on the increase and have not been hitting the sponsored posts even half as much this month. Its always interesting and exciting to think that by creating one great and unique article it can create an ongoing and passive income for many years to come.

Set achievable goals
About 2 or 3 months into this Blog I must admit I did hit the wall a few times and I was getting discouraged with the effort that was required to maintain the momentum however I dug in and kept it going. I have set small goals along the way like breaking into the top 100,000 of Technorati, then the top 50,000, then the top 20,000 now I am aiming for the top 10,000. Its stuff like this that keeps you going and gives you a great sense of satisfaction as each target is accomplished and you can move onto the next.

Learn from the Pros
Other bloggers are doing it and doing it very well - find gurus that you respect and can learn off and try and mimic their success. I'm talking about ProBlogger, Shoemoney and Yaro - these guys all share many of their secrets so you should be reading their articles everyday, listening to pod casts about SEO, traffic building and the do's and dont's of websites and Blogs. The key though is to not only read about them - do them!

Of course sleep may become a thing of the past, however you can even learn to need less of it..How to Become an Early Riser

Motivation - Or Lack of it - Is there a cure for Laziness?

Often I find it very hard to motivate myself to work on my sites and write articles etc.. I tend to waste away precious time reading other articles about blogging and making money online instead of concentrating on getting my own backyard in order.

I am curious to know if this is a problem that other blogger/online money makers have or am I just lazy? Lately I have been writing task lists for myself that include backup this website, post an article on this blog today and things like that. It seems to help a bit and I feel so much better when I have made a decent contribution to one or more of my sites.

At the moment I have the added task of studying... I have this theory that ( I am studying extramurally) instead of spending hours going through the course materials like a normal person probably would - I spend what little time I have working hard out on the assignments as they tend to cover what is in the course material anyway - then I just have to do a last minute cram for the exam and can normally wing it!

Unfortunately I left school at a young age, so maybe if I had put in a bit more effort back then I would not be faced with studying now - but better late than never.

Anyway I guess its a bit of a weird post - but what I would really like to know is that if you are reading this article, please share how you motivate yourself (if you need to!) and do you have similar issues with getting sidetracked and wasting time.
