Astore Landing Page Experiment Relaunched

After renewed interest in the initial landing page experiment I have decided to relaunch this particular campaign. With a greater knowledge of AdWords than what I had at this point I think I have managed to significantly decrease my cost of clicks for the one product that I did have some success with.

Also this week I am working on creating two new websites, one is another recipe site along the same lines of my curry recipe site, and the other a sports news site.

I have a bit of time this week due to half the family taking off to Perth for a few days, lucky for some!

There is also a 7 year old kid giving it a shot (landing page) with his Lego Store - we will let you know how that goes to as long as they keep updating me!

Stay tuned for daily updates as the Astore Landing Page Experiment continues!

Landing Page Success at Last!

Finally I have had some limited success with my PPC experiment where I set up a Google Adwords campaign and sent the visitors straight to niche product Amazon Astores. You can read about the original experiment here.... Landing Pages - Can they Make Money Fast?

The Background to the Experiment
The experiment has been running for just over 3 weeks and it is time to check the results and see if it is possible to make money fast with landing pages. Remember you don't even need a website to do this!

I became very disillusioned with this after the first couple of weeks - probably half the problem was that I was checking the results everyday and sometimes its best just to leave things for a bit. The biggest problem was that despite getting literally thousands of impressions for my ads the click through rate was very low.

In some ways this is good, because you want to structure your adverts so that you are only going to get clicked on if they are already sold on the product let me explain...

Specifically targeting the Ads
Say you are selling star wars DVD's , specifically Empire Strikes Back DVD's, now you would be crazy to have an advert that said DVD's for sale. As how many that clicked on that would be interested in an Empire Strikes Back DVD? probably not many. However if your advert specifically said Buy Empire Strikes Back DVD online now then you would be in with a much better chance of converting the traffic. Also funnily enough the keywords would be cheaper as well.

To find the areas that these niche products were popular in you would use Google Trends so that you are also narrowing down your targeting to a specific geographic area for your product.

The Results
The results are around 5 US dollars spent on clicks, and approximately 12 US dollars earned. One of my campaigns was responsible for most of the results and from only 8 clicks (90 cents) I had 3 orders. Thats a great conversion rate, I am currently boosting what I am paying on this campaign to try and get more click throughs.

Going Forwards
Now although you could hardly call my results startling the fact is that I have made a small profit by creating free astore pages, and driving qualified targeted traffic to them. Now you can have up to 100 astores and I am really excited about the potential of this. I am going to spend more time setting up more campaigns and creating more stores and will report further on this in the weeks and months ahead.

Landing Page PPC - Amazon Astore Experiment Continued...

2 Days ago we created an Amazon Astore to be used as a kind of landing page for a PPC experiment - its been an interesting ride so far and I have come across a few things already that I think its worthwhile sharing.

Google AdWords
You can set up multiple ads for a single campaign on Google AdWords. This means that if you set up your Landing page with 5 different types of Beer for example, you could create a campaign of Beer and set up a different advert for each beer type. This helps to qualify the click throughs. The way I go about it is to try and attract the most specific traffic that I can - surely this must help the conversion rate.

Budget - you can set a budget for each campaign that you are running. At the moment I am now running four campaigns and each has a budget of one dollar a day - this stops it running away on you if you pick a really popular keyword!

Its very efficient so far I have had hundreds of impressions but only one click through - this means I can slowly raise my bid until I am getting the required amount of click throughs and keep adjusting it from there. Its better to start bidding low for keywords and work your way up - there is also a keyword traffic estimator tool which helps predict what kind of placements your adverts will get.

Trademarks - In the Google Adwords adverts that you set up you can't use words that are trademarked like "Nike" or "Amazon" in the text of the advert. Also you can't make unproven claims like "Number 1" or "the Best" if however you believe you should be able to you can request an exception - I gather an actual Human would come into the process if you chose this option.

Country - think about the country you are wanting to target. If your landing page is an Amazon US Astore its probably best to only target United States Google Searches. This is configurable when you set up your AdWords campaign.

Amazon Astores
You can set each Astore up under a different affiliate tracking ID, this is recommended of course so you can see what systems are working best for you.

Astores can actually end up ranking on Google - so think carefully about the title and keywords that you use in the text when you are creating your stores.

You can have up to 100 Astores set up under your affiliate id. Each Astore can include a link back to your website - think about that for a while.... I don't actually link back at this point in time because I want the visitors to buy something, not surf off to check out a blog site.

I think it will take at least 7 to 10 days before I can get some decent data on this experiment - stay tuned for updates

Landing Pages - Can they Make Money Fast?

One of the problems when trying to make money from a Blog or a website is that if you don't have a product that you are actually selling then it can be extremely difficult to make anything more than pocket money unless of course you have an extremely high amount of traffic.

One way that Internet Marketers DO make money is by selling a product (their own or as an affiliate) and there are of course a lot of ways of doing it. One way is to create a landing page for the product that you are trying to sell and then setting up a PPC campaign to drive qualified traffic to the site. As the traffic is looking for what you are selling theoretically it should not be to hard to convert the visits into money - that's the theory and some people seem to do it very well indeed.

My Landing Page Experiment and Colossal Budget
Fortunately I am already set up with Google AdWords as I have used them in the past to promote some of my other sites. I am going to try a small experiment and see if I can make a profit with a pay per click campaign. I have set a budget of 1 dollar a day which if all goes well could potentially bring me around 15 click throughs a day. I will run it for 20 days and then reassess.

The Product
I have set up an Amazon Astore page with a particular product that I found. It has a large number of people searching for it when I check the http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ tool however when I type the product into Google there are not many sponsored adverts meaning I should be able to get some cheap clicks.

The AdWord Campaign
I have created highly targeted keyword advertisements for specific phrases related to this product and they are sent straight to my astore page. Luckily for me the adverts I have bought are very cheap - I have set up four in the advert campaign each targeted to a specific version of the product. I am only paying between 6 and 7 cents a click NZ so thats only about 4 cents US. I only need a small conversion amount probably about 5 percent to make money.

The AStore Page - My Landing Page
I have set this page up with a very simple format, there is simply 9 photo products with about 4 variations. The ads I have created are specific for these 4 variations to help both the price of the clicks and the conversion rate. By this I mean that if I was selling Blue Pens I would have blue pens on the astore page and the advert would say Blue Pens. You would pay a lot more for just pens and likely get a lot less conversions because the person might actually be after crimson pens.

The Unknown
I have never tried a campaign like this before - I have no idea how much traffic I am going get and what kind of conversions (if any) they will turn into. If this works I can see MASSIVE potential however it can't be this easy surely - or everyone would be doing it.

I will post updates as and when I get them. Below are a couple of sites I visited in my research about landing pages.
