How to Make Your AdWords Advert a Successful One

I have been experimenting a little bit with a couple of small Adwords campaigns, directed to landing pages in an attempt to generate a little extra money. The first problem that I encountered was although I am getting impressions, people are simply not clicking on the adverts, so its now mission time, to try to generate an advert that not only converts impressions into clicks, but converts the right kind of customers that will actually buy as well!

Nothing is ever easy in this world is it.

I am trying to sell Matrix DVD's to a target market of UK. I am pointing the advert to this landing page, which I whipped up from a template I found online, and filled with my amazon affiliate adverts for the Matrix DVD, the plan being to pay for cheap clicks from people actually wanting to buy the Matrix DVD, convert them and make a few dollars.

Its fair to say the advert is pretty crap. So I am going for a rewrite... and came up with this. Previously was getting 0% conversion so will post again in a few days and update if there is any change..

I found out from this article that you can actually add a keyword dynamically into the title so are going to give this a shot. Will let you know..

The Million Dollar Experiment Summary To Date

The Background

Back in October 2006 I started upon a journey that I hoped would make me One Million Dollars in cold hard cash. It is now 21 Months later and I have NOT made One million dollars yet, however I have made more than ten thousand dollars online and set myself up with a small monthly income whether I work at it or not.

All was well on target until January/February this year when my life literally fell to pieces and I ended up leaving my marriage, going through a very tough time both emotionally and financially and working on my experiment was to be quite honest the last thing on my mind.

Six months later the world is a different place for me, it has not been an easy time, by any stretch of the imagination, but as the saying goes

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

and I believe I will come out of this whole experience wiser, smarter and happier in the long run, however it's going to take time and I would not wish the last six months on anyone.

Passive Income Starting to Kick In

Its taken a long time, well into the second year now but everyday I do make a bit of money whether I do anything or not.

I try not to spend to much time on things that are not going to help long term anymore and to be honest do not spend even a quarter as much time online as what I used to. Earnings have certainly suffered however every month I am still earning several hundred dollars via a mixture of online activities.

This site for some reason got a fair amount of PR back from the google gods, and that has certainly helped things income wise. However who knows when they will suddenly decide to take it away again. I used to really panic about PR but now just go with the flow, I have sites with no PR that I still sell links on and they do ok.

If you have a number of sites and can make a bit of passive out of each of them, surely you are on a winner.

Short Term Money VS Long Term Gains

Lately I have been in the situation where I have needed money fast, ( to pay bills ) and the time frame has been short. However its a dilemma in itself because normally if you want to make money in a real hurry I have found that I have had to do the likes of sponsored reviews, or sell links. This is all good and you can get quick results however you also need to focus on the long term stuff which means creating worthwhile and valuable content that is going to create passive income, and unfortunately spamming your sites with paid posts and links is not really the best way to go about it.

My answer to this has and always will be multiple sites, I have sites which have never seen a sponsored post anywhere near them, I also have sites which I pretty much use solely for sponsored posts. ( not this one if you were wondering, this blog is a mixed bag where I try to create content, but do a bit of advertising as well )

How much money can you make in a short time frame?

I went to one of my paid post sites tonight and wrote 5 quick short posts that took me around 30 minutes and I was paid $US 25-00 for my efforts. Thats not great money, but it was quick and effortless really and filled a need ( money for the bank account ).

Balancing it out

The important thing is if you do something like this try to make sure you also spend time creating content or improving traffic to your key sites, so that you are not only fulfilling your immediate requirements but also working on creating a longer term and reliable passive source of income, that is really the golden egg, that I think most of us are seeking. So don't ruin your sites for short term gain if you can help and are looking to really make decent money fast online.

How to Avoid Bankruptcy

Well for me the last 7 or 8 weeks have been a lesson in money management. My circumstances have changed more than ever before and suddenly I am in a situation where not only do I have to count every cent that is spent, I am really struggling to even keep a roof over my head and the main thing that I have learn't from all this is that when you have more than enough money it is easy to stop thinking about what you are spending.

Previously I had my salary, looked after my family and paid my mortgage with enough left over to live a pretty good lifestyle. Recent events however have meant that Debt Management has become a priority for me, I have doubled my expenses by taking on another property commitment and are now once again looking for many more opportunities to make money fast online.

Stay tuned, this experiment has been pretty quiet for the last couple of months, however it is now time to reawaken, and move things to the next level. I hope you will join me on this journey.

Introduction:

Those of you who do not know who I am my name is Greg Barnaby and I am the guy that Rob sometimes mentions in his posts. Together we formed a working partnership called GRIS. This is the first of hopefully many guest posts to be done by me. A little bit about myself I am 27 years old, a full time Carpenter, part time lifeguard, and soon to be married. I started earning online 13 months ago and have never put any of my own money into this just re-invested what I have earned.

Do we Make Money Fast?

I thought my first post would deal with making money fast online. Does GRIS make money fast online? Yes and no! Our long term goals are to create a passive income, passive income large enough to make this our full time jobs. Many of you will find that doing this is not very fast. As you know it has taken Rob over a year to get this blog earning what it does today, it did not happen over night. Creating passive income is a slow process sometimes.

That said Gris does Make Money Fast. Take last week for example, we had payments into our PayPal account for 95$, 75$ and 50$ in a span of 24 hours. We sold some directories and received payment for links on our various sites. We also make money fast when we sell links special at DP. We have taken in over 600$ in 1 week just selling links and blog posts. It was a lot of work but it did make us some fast money.

We started small and now we are ready to move on to the next level - that means we are ready to graduate to the next level of higher earning websites. We have created capital from nothing, made money fast, created a passive income that will continue to grow and now are ready to take the next step. None of this was easy. It took time, trust and a lot of effort to get where we are today. It is possible to make money fast online but it does take effort. Make sure you set your goals, write them down, look at them, and use them to keep you focused. Lose site of your goals and you will end up wasting your time. Stay focused!

Last Months Traffic: 3911 Unique Visitors (worked out from last 10 days traffic)
Average Monthly Earnings: $6.2

(Earnings worked out from daily figures taken over last 7 days, then multiplied by 31 to get average month - this being necessary as one of the sites, has not yet been going for a whole month.)

The advertising that is earning money is just contextual advertising and for the amount of traffic the earnings are quite low. We really need ten times the traffic to start making some decent money however at least the sites are paying for themselves at this point

Is it better to have many sites that make a little or a few sites that make a lot?

Lately myself and Greg have been in the position where we have so many sites that we struggle to find the time to work on them all which of course raises many interesting questions as to what is the best way to go.

Obviously if you have 100 sites and they all make around $1 a day then you are doing ok, but what a lot of effort it takes to drive traffic to all these sites and maintain them.

The other side of the coin is if you have say 1 or 2 sites that earn $100 a day, the effort is very minimal however of course the risk is much greater. With many sites the chances of them all getting hit with an algorithm change at Google for instance is much smaller than the potential of it happening with one site.

I think somewhere in the middle is the place to be so I am going to try to work on getting around 20 sites to earn $5 each a day. Thats a happy medium and probably will do nicely. Of course it is never that simple and some will earn more and some less, however I am thinking 100 sites is way to many to handle.

Make Money Fast - Month Drawing to An End

Well I have to be honest, this month on the Million Dollar Experiment Down Under we are not looking that flash and this is for a number of reasons, which I will outline down below.

Time on other projects
Things with my online partnerships are going extremely well, and I have spent a lot of my time working on these. Unfortunately I don't count this money in my Million Dollar Experiment, not until I start drawing a salary anyway.

Getting Rundown
This month I really hit the wall, burning the candle at both ends caught up with me and I got quite ill. On the improve now though.

My Dad's Business
My Father is overseas and I have been looking after his online endeavours for the last couple of weeks, although it doesn't take that long, and has been worthwhile, the income earned won't be counted until probably next month.

Anyway thats my excuses, the summary will be in a few days, hopefully a big few days will make it look a little more respectable than it is at the moment!

Make Money Fast With An Online Store

My Father is heading overseas for a month or so and I am taking care of his contact lens online store. Its not hard to have your own online shop these days and thats mainly due to the great open source shopping software used by thousands of websites around the world oscommerce.

From what I have seen the store makes a few hundred dollars a month in profit. Its quite easy to run its just really a matter of taking the orders and then communicating with the supplier.

Finding a good and reliable supplier is half the battle, however luckily for my fathers store he has been dealing with the same supplier for several years so the relationship is strong.

Once you have your store all set up you can drive traffic to it, and all things remaining equal the more traffic that you get, the more sales and profit you should make.

Its a lot cheaper buying lenses online than through a chemist, I have been buying mine online for years and its the same product, however you can normally save at least 25% on the price.

The prices on his store are in Australian dollars. If you wear contacts, why not give it a shot for your next pair?

Another Day and Another Website Launched

Tommorrow I am going to let you now how I managed to remove around 1600 external links from my site in a few minutes.

Tonight however I am shattered, spent all weekend working on starting up a US version of my Curry Focus site and spent all day today creating a new site called Worlds Fastest Cars.

Haven't made hardly any money in the last few days so may have to pull out all stops tommorrow to give the new month a boost along.

For now though it is sleep time, its been a long day but a fruitful one.

Can you make money from MLM?

MLM stands for Multi-level marketing.

You sign up with the intention to sell product and make a commission. 1st Level.

You sign up others, and they also sell and receive commission. 2nd Level. You also receive part of their sales.

They sign up others, 3rd level. You also receive part of their sales.

And so on. As there is only so much commission on any sale, the usual deal is a decreasing return, so that your 1st Level direct sales might make 20%, 2nd Level 6%, 3rd Level 4% and so on. A good MLM marketer will try and sign up as many new agents as he can, in the hope that he can retire and live on the passive income generated by the many levels of agents working away under him.

Amway are probably the biggest MLM operator in the world. The heavily promoted goal of 'Diamond Level' suggests that you can reach $US 72,000 to $150,000 passive income in 5 years. Websites such as http://www.cocs.com/jhoagland/ are written by people who found otherwise. You may well be able to make some money selling their products and attending their motivational seminars. You will probably need to sign up quite a few people and it is quite likely that three-quarters of those you approach won't be interested and indeed might become ex-friends.

Some companies set up website schemes with a good product to sell, with a reasonable commission, and a couple of extra levels that allows you to introduce others and you can get a small part of their sales as well. An example of this is the Shop New Zealand affiliate program :aff where you receive 9% of your sales (Tier One) , 4% on Tier Two and 2% on Tier Three. While this is also MLM, it does not come with the promise of huge returns, there is no entry cost and you don't have to convince all your friends to sign up.

Some years back in 2001, I became interested in an MLM scheme with nine levels that was marketing Visa debit cards and paid spotters fees if you introduced customers from your website, as well as an ongoing commission from their spending through a rebate system. This company was called Visa Rebates, but was hastily renamed Viva Rebates after Visa (the real credit card company) told them they did not have permission to use their name. They still have a website at "http://vivarebates.atlasmall.com/" but as far as I can tell, they have only signed up MLM members and never issued any cards that actually did what they promoted. They are heavily listed as scammers these days. I did receive about $US60 from them when they started and I didn't have to pay anything so I can't really complain.

If you are thinking about joining one of these schemes, make sure there is a proper product to sell, with a reasonable commission, and the scheme does not rely on your signing up other agents, especially with entry fees payable.

Have You Found Your Niche?

Most professional Bloggers will tell you that you need to find your niche, there is no point just being another money making blog these days because although you can make beer money like this you probably won't hit it big unless you are extremely good.

The fact is that there is just too much competition, if you want to make a business out of your blog or website you need to carve yourself a niche where you don't have every man and his dog fighting for the same revenue.

For myself I have been trying to work out where to aim for my niche for a long time, and as I always like to share whats been going on here are some of things I have been thinking about whilst trying to find my little market segment.

Find something that you can be passionate about
This is very important, if you have a blog that you cannot put your all into then you are going to struggle long term to continue creating quality content for it. If you are passionate about something however it is not a chore - its enjoyable and rewarding.

Use what you have learned so far
Your existing sites and blogs have likely taught you a great deal, from SEO to marketing. I know for myself its been a crash course in Internet Marketing for me over the last year or two. When you are ready to get serious you need to draw on all this experience and bring it into play.

You MUST get your own domain and hosting
Even if you started making thousands of dollars out of your Blogspot blog, its important to realize that you don't own it. Blogger could simply shut you down and suddenly you would have nothing and have to start from scratch. This could conceivable be years of hard work down the drain and its to valuable to risk so you really need to get your own domain going on.

Be professional
Its easy to fill your site up with adverts and affiliate links, but when you find the niche that you want to make into a long term and stable business I think you need to start out concentrating on content and take it easy on the monetizing at least in the short term.

There are thousands of niches that are yet to be filled, whether its you or someone else that does it thousands and thousands of dollars will be made over the years to come. So many ways exist to monetize a popular site that given a certain level of decent traffic it is just a matter of trying different methods to earn the best income that you can from it - as well as providing the best quality of content to your site visitors.

Landing Page Success at Last!

Finally I have had some limited success with my PPC experiment where I set up a Google Adwords campaign and sent the visitors straight to niche product Amazon Astores. You can read about the original experiment here.... Landing Pages - Can they Make Money Fast?

The Background to the Experiment
The experiment has been running for just over 3 weeks and it is time to check the results and see if it is possible to make money fast with landing pages. Remember you don't even need a website to do this!

I became very disillusioned with this after the first couple of weeks - probably half the problem was that I was checking the results everyday and sometimes its best just to leave things for a bit. The biggest problem was that despite getting literally thousands of impressions for my ads the click through rate was very low.

In some ways this is good, because you want to structure your adverts so that you are only going to get clicked on if they are already sold on the product let me explain...

Specifically targeting the Ads
Say you are selling star wars DVD's , specifically Empire Strikes Back DVD's, now you would be crazy to have an advert that said DVD's for sale. As how many that clicked on that would be interested in an Empire Strikes Back DVD? probably not many. However if your advert specifically said Buy Empire Strikes Back DVD online now then you would be in with a much better chance of converting the traffic. Also funnily enough the keywords would be cheaper as well.

To find the areas that these niche products were popular in you would use Google Trends so that you are also narrowing down your targeting to a specific geographic area for your product.

The Results
The results are around 5 US dollars spent on clicks, and approximately 12 US dollars earned. One of my campaigns was responsible for most of the results and from only 8 clicks (90 cents) I had 3 orders. Thats a great conversion rate, I am currently boosting what I am paying on this campaign to try and get more click throughs.

Going Forwards
Now although you could hardly call my results startling the fact is that I have made a small profit by creating free astore pages, and driving qualified targeted traffic to them. Now you can have up to 100 astores and I am really excited about the potential of this. I am going to spend more time setting up more campaigns and creating more stores and will report further on this in the weeks and months ahead.

May Summary of The Million Dollar Experiment Down Under

9 Months ago our exponential growth experiment began. It seemed simple at first after making just over $30 in month 1, however now that we are at month 9 and heading into month 10 it is starting to become a whole new ball game.

In the last 2 months this experiment has pulled in over $500 US dollars and that in itself is not to bad when you consider that this has only been a part time operation for me as I work full time and have a young family.

From the second week of June due to my work situation changing slightly (I am cutting down on my hours to spend more time with that family of mine) I hope to be able to dedicate a little more time to my online endeavours and with the targets that I have ahead of me as I head towards the 30th Month where the target is $7289!

Traffic & top referrers this Month
I have decided to create a separate page for the links that I have to the like minded blogs that I recommend you visit. What I am going to do is that instead of linking to the top 5 referrers to this site time and time again after each article (which is starting to get a bit spammy) is list them on the front page of my site. One of the reasons that I am doing this is your page can actually get penalized for having to many off site external links on it - and we don't want this so a new page has been set up. If you have a blog site linking to lots of other fellow bloggers from your front page I recommend that you do the same. You are still providing a link of course.

June is the final month for this site in the Blog Traffic Challenge, I really need to crank the numbers in June if I am to reach the goal that I set myself a couple of months ago which was to double the traffic that this site had in March. As you can see from the sitemeter stats below we are in with a chance however we need to pull out all stops!! I think a killer article needs to be written this month that gets a fair bit of linking in order to pull this one out of the bag.


Money Money Money
Money has not been a problem lately - time is more of the immediate issue and the month of May had the best start possible where we won a competition on Kumiko's site which contributed $30 US dollars to our fund. (which we then donated to charity). Its been a better month contextually with advertising working away nicely and of course once again we have been making up the numbers with a variety of paid posts. Gearing up for the months ahead I have started a couple of new Blogs and also began tidying up some of my sites.

Anyway you want to know specifics, this month we earned $250

Passive: $90.63
Active: $160

Google Adwords - Amazon Astores
This month we also started experimenting with Amazon Astores as landing pages for Google Adword campaigns and went about this in a product specific matter. At this point in time we have had little success with this model with the main issue being not getting the click throughs that we need. It has only cost just over 1 dollar to date and we have not earned a thing from it. I will continue to experiment with this however - stay tuned for further details in the weeks and months ahead.

Make Enough Money with a Part Time Income?

When I first started trying to make money fast online every dollar was a huge buzz - over April and May I will come close to cracking $500 US dollars and this is only a part time. The problem is that where do you draw the line and say that's enough - is it really ever going to be enough or is it simply human nature to continue to strive for more and more.

Every dollar has its price no matter what anyone says, time spent online is time away from your family or your friends and it has to be worth it.

I spend so much time glued to a computer - all day at my day job and a few hours each night blogging and working on my sites that its actually starting to cause me physical pain! I have to really start being conscious about sitting properly and getting enough rest breaks otherwise I may seriously injure myself and that would definitely slow down the money making.

While I am writing this I am listening to a podcast by Yaro Starak and he is interviewing Tim Ferriss about the 4 hour working week. Its all about separating your income from hours and something that I need to get a lot better at.

One thing that I have realized lately is that all our lives we are trained to work 5 days a week 8 hours a day and this is a hard mindset to get out of. We then keep doing this for 40 or so years and then we retire and can relax. Well the problem with this model is that the best years of your life are over and you spent them all working for someone else. Is this what you really want from your life?

Why not spend a few years building passive income sources and then simply cut down or stop working altogether - this is not only achievable but can happen quite quickly if you really set your mind to it.

One recurring theme that I keep hearing on pod casts and articles from successful bloggers and entrepreneurs is that a lot of people just don't get on and try stuff. They spend there time thinking about doing it and trying to convince themselves that they need to do it however end up just drifting along.

So what I am trying to say - sorry for waffling on - is that if you are keen to make money online just get into it, start to work on projects that will make you money in the future and make sure you allow yourself time to make money now as well because that is what will help to motivate you. Set yourself exponentially increasing targets that challenge you each and every month and just get into it!

Online Auctions - Open a second hand store with Auction Ads

There's been a lot of talk about Auction Ads of late - one blogger at least appears to be doing very well out of them - Auction Ads - Reader Reviews . My blog gets a great click through rate on the ads (you can see these adverts on the left sidebar), however to date the money earned has been quite minimal. If you have a niche market in mind that could be related to something that sells well on eBay it could be worthwhile setting up a site around this and filling it up with Auction Ads and get writing some unique and quality content about the product.

I myself intend to start up a few blogs like this however are going to have to wait for a few weeks to get into it when I have a bit more time on my hands.

Setting up Ads for your site
To set up the ad script for your site the easiest way to explain would be that it is similar to setting up AdSense code - however less clicks to get there. Its dead easy.

You can run them alongside Google Adsense because they are not contextual, (The Auction ads that are served to your site are determined by keywords that you type in at set-up time.)

Affiliate Program
The affiliate program that Auction Ads run is fantastic, just by displaying the ad code on your site you are automatically becoming a referrer as well, if any clicks through to Auction Ads from your site a 30 days referral cookie is placed on their PC. As an affiliate you will earn...

a bonus 2% of all revenue generated by that user for the 6 months

Sounds like a good deal for minimum effort. I can definitely see Auction Ads becoming a large part of my online income in the future - I'm planning on targeting some specific second hand type niche markets and try and get these sites ranking well on Google - visitors should convert very well as the products that they will see auctions for will be the very items they have just searched for.

Making Money Fast - How this Blog is Doing it

Firstly some background, 7 or so months ago I started an exponential growth experiment with the end goal of earning 1 Million NZ dollars online. In the first month I earned $36 US dollars and by using an exponential formula realised that by increasing by 20 percent a month after 30 months of doing this I would be pulling in a whopping 7000 US dollars a month and be well on my to achieving my goal.

I work full time and are studying a Degree at University part time, also to top if off I have a young demanding family. Having no time is not an excuse - it is a cop out. This has to date been as much about time management as it has been about making money however I am pleased to say that after 7 months we are not only on track but literally blowing the targets out of the water.

For April the Million Dollar Experiment Down under has really ramped up - we have pulled out all stops in an effort to start proving exactly how much money can be made online. We are trying to Make Money Fast - no more dreaming about how much might be made - the readers of this site want to know whether they can do it to - and there's now enough content on this site to give you a plan to follow. Within the next couple of weeks I am putting together a chain of articles from previous posts that will help you get to where I am - faster as you can learn from my mistakes.

My tally so far this month is already over $250 US and we still have a couple of days to go. last month as a comparison we made $129 US Dollars - its pretty goddamn exciting as the dream starts to materialize.

Here's a glimpse of this months graph, more details will be in the month end summary in a couple of days with a breakdown of active vs passive as well as key realizations that have been made in recent weeks that have really started to help especially in regards to search engine optimization.

Make Money Fast Method of the Week - Sell a Banner Advert

You can Make Money Fast by selling a banner advert to an advertiser for a set fee per month. I have personally done this on my Job Search sites and the most I have sold a one month banner for at this stage is $30 NZ.

You need to strike at any opportunity, in this case someone emailed me about placing a job advert on my site - however my site is actually for job seekers to place adverts not employers. Anyway I told him this however offered him the opportunity to place a banner on the front page of the site for $30, and also offered him a cheaper alternative on another site that didn't get quite the same traffic mentioning of course that this would be placing the advert directly in front of the exact kind of person that he was trying to target.

The advertiser quickly accepted the offer so I whipped up a paypal link and posted a payment page on my site, where he could then go and pay directly to my paypal account. This worked like a dream, he paid, sent me a banner and then I placed it on the site.

About a week later I had a similar experience on another site, and successfully sold another ad link however it was only for about $15 dollars.

You can then send them a reminder after a month along with a link to renew the payment, or simply remove their advert and dedicate the space to another form of advertising.

Its all about thinking on your feet, and making the most out of any contact potential advertisers make with you - sometimes they are few and far between so don't be shy!
