The Blog Traffic Challenge Finishes

Back in March I entered the Can I make Big Money Online Blog Traffic Challenge. The Challenge was to attempt to double the traffic to your blog in three months, and on the 30th June 2007 that challenge ended for me.

There are a number of things that you can do to increase traffic to your site, and that includes things like search engine optimization, social networking, quality content creation, consistency of posting and much much more. What I found worked for me was choosing one thing at a time and then doing whatever I could do in that area to improve things going forward.

SEO
One of the main areas I concentrated on was SEO, mainly because I knew that improvements in this area would not provide instant results, however they would provide ongoing traffic and the results could be significant if the proper research and implementation was carried out

The way I approached this was to simply determine a phrase that I wanted to optimize the site for. In this case after doing a reasonable amount of keyword research I selected the phrase "Make Money Fast" its interesting to note that this site is now on page number one on MSN for this term and although we are not on page number one on Google yet, we do rank well for terms like "Make a fast Million" which is doing very well for us.

Initially the site was not even ranked in the top 10,000 results for the phrase "Make Money Fast" however today when I checked we are sitting at position 94. Hopefully in the weeks to come this will continue to improve. Please see the graph below, note the lower the line the closer to the front page!

I have tried and write an article everyday, this ensures that return visitors will have something fresh to greet them when they come back the next to see whats going down at the Million Dollar Experiment Down Under.

Meme lists
I joined in the favourites exchange launched by doshdosh.com, that helped not only this site be favourited by about 170 people but it also launched us into the top 10 K blogs on technorati.com. This particular article has 94 comments on it - that shows how many people a single article like this can bring in the way of real traffic.

The Results
Now after all this I did not unfortunately achieve the key objective which was to double the traffic in a three month period. However I did achieve a 52.39 percent increase which is a fantastic result really. Below is the graph showing the traffic gain over the last few months.

I recommend that anyone that wants to significantly boost the traffic to their site participant in a challenge like this, and if there isn't one around why not start your own?

By having a goal to aim for that is concrete it really helps you get motivated, and although I didn't actually achieve the goal, its quite possible that if I hadn't tried the traffic to my site would be considerably less than what it is now.

Increase Search Engine Traffic by 38 Percent in One Month

During the Month of April it is no secret that I have been trying like a bat out of hell to increase the traffic to this site. A number of SEO tweaks have been done over the last month and I thought you may be interested to see in real numbers what kind of effect this has had. For a comparison I am going to show you February's Google Search referrals, then March's and then Aprils. (Bearing in mind that not much was done in the way of tweaking during March.). Something else I have noticed is that visitors that arrive via the search engines tend to convert better than your regular visitors. This means that by getting more search engine traffic to your site it should convert into higher CTR's and more money.

February we are looking at 205 Visitors over 28 days - 7.32 per day

March we had 230 Visitors over 31 days - 7.41 per day + 1.22 %

April we had 307 Visitors over 30 days - 10.23 per day + 38.05 %

In May we should get another decent rise because it is only really the last two weeks of April that things started improving. It does take time for the search engines to pick up on changes that you have incorporated and for them to re-index your site.

April Summary of our Make Money Fast Million Dollar Experiment Down Under

Overview
Month 7 ends for what has been a heck of ride so far as we continue to surpass our Exponential Growth targets. We are still a long way from our end goal of One Million NZ Dollars however things are moving along at an ever increasing rate. The biggest earner for us this month have been a large number of featured posts from PayU2Blog. These guys have been firing opportunities at us as fast as we can type and of course it would have been impolite to turn down this much money - especially when I am trying to find out exactly how much money can be made from a Blog.

The Blog Traffic Challenge
As far as the Blog Traffic Challenge goes this month particularly in the last couple of weeks we have made some excellent headway. This blog had levelled out somewhat as far as traffic goes and Georges invitation to all to join his Blog Traffic Challenge was the catalyst for me getting off my butt and making it happen. Thanks George.

As part of achieving this challenge I have been trying to learn as much about Search Engine Optimization as possible, there are some great sites and podcasts out there, however my favourite to date is Mr-SEO . Joe is fantastic to listen to and lays out simple facts about how best to optimize your site. There are also some great resources on the Mr-SEO site like directory listings to submit your site to, free tools and lots of other relevant information. I can honestly say that by listening to and learning some of this there have been direct results in a significant amount of additional search engine traffic not only on this Blog but my other sites as well.

Each Month My top 5 referrers of traffic get a Link back that is probably a bit over the top - however I haven't had any complaints yet and I hope that it helps their traffic as well as their Technorati Ranking. Its all about giving back to those that have helped me and all the sites that I link to are well worth a read.

The Results to date
The beauty of exponential growth is that it sets realistic targets. If you had said to me after month 1 when I earned $36-85 that I would be earning $266-00 in another six months it would have seemed a little unlikely. However by having the target just creep up by 20 percent a month it certainly makes it achievable. Now just because I more than doubled my target this month does not mean that we need to get greedy and start becoming unrealistic. I will continue to keep to the original plan.

You need to be absolutely unwilling to fail if you want to pull something like this off - and try not to think more than one month ahead. Aim to reach your target early as that way the pressure is off and you can work on creating content and putting your time into site optimizations that will help to form the basis of passive income in what will be challenging months ahead.

May looks to be another great month, we are surging ahead in traffic and income and see no reason why things should slow down at all. The Blog Traffic Challenge - Lets get ready to Rumble!!!

On the 18th March I joined the Blog Traffic Challenge over at the Can I Make Big Money Online website. The plan is that you clearly state that you wish to double the traffic to your blog over the next 3 months and then set about achieving that goal.

Now George who instigated the challenge has managed to achieve it in 4 weeks, this is a fantastic result and should be an inspiration to the rest of the participants - who are listed on this Squidoo Page.

I decided for my own challenge that I would look at the total traffic for March, and then try and double this by June. Here is the graph of my visits in March. An average of 43.58 which isn't that great really considering the time this site has been going. (hence why I am doing this challenge!)

Below are the methods that I have been using...

Posting articles more regularly
The more articles that you post - theoretically this should convert to more numbers.

Visiting other sites more often, and leaving comments and participating in things going on.
I often say you have to give before you will receive, so following this formula I try to get around as many sites as I have time for, see whats going on and comment accordingly. Also its important to participate in challenges or memes, or whatever is going down at the time.

Doing more sponsored posts
Hah - you think I'm crazy, well not so, this blog is about making money remember, when you see this months results it will start to become apparent as to why doing more sponsored posts could help raise the traffic to this site. People want to know how much money can be made from a blog - and I plan to show them.
